Investing in energy efficiency offers attractive paybacks and adds value to any company.  After purchasing an old warehouse and converting it into a new state-of-the-art, 24-hour Customer Care Center, a large cable company in California knew that they needed to reduce the costs of lighting for the new round-the-clock facility.  As such, the company approached Amtech Lighting Services with the dual-pronged task of saving money while improving efficiency and performance, and Amtech was eager to take on this duty.

In order to achieve success in this undertaking, Amtech designed and performed a re-lamping project specific to the needs of the facility.  The first phase of the project included supplanting the traditional, yet inefficient 400-watt, metal halide “high-bay” fixtures with a 6-lamp, T8 fluorescent system.  In total, Amtech replaced the 208 old fixtures, which were mounted at a height of 25 feet, and replaced them with 143 fixtures mounted at 15 feet.  This adjustment in height produced a marked increase in light levels for the client’s employees.  Other problems with the old lamps included excessive glare, casting of shadows and problematic color differences.  These issues were all rectified by Amtech’s installation of the new lighting system; moreover, the project was completed a week early, and well under the planned budget.

The success of this project is clearly underscored by the following savings statistics: annual energy savings of $82,335.24 and annual kilowatt-hour savings of 548,901.  This does not include the added ergonomic benefits from maintaining a well-lit facility for a company’s employees.  “What a huge difference the lighting change has made,” beamed the Facilities Manager.  “Since the completion of the re-lamp, we’ve received positive feedback from our employees.  The new light fixtures provide proper office lighting and have reduced computer glare.  Many thanks to Amtech for completing the job before the projected due date.”
